Jukka Liedes called from
Finland with an offer we could not refuse: would Katherine come to Helsinki
to lead a discussion of the paper which she had prepared at the request of
the Finnish government, a paper analyzing the range of legislative responses
to technological protection measures for audiovisual works. So we drove down
to Denver on a Friday afternoon and boarded a flight bound for London...
On Saturday afternoon
we relaxed at home with Katherine's parents and Harriet, Alberto, and
soon-to-arrive baby.
The big news in London
is the imminent arrival of the Osbornes on TV. Fortunately we're only here
until Monday.

In the evening Stephen, Lisa, and
Adrian joined us for dinner at an Indian restaurant in Edgware.
On Sunday morning we headed down to
the flower market on Columbia Road...
where we had breakfast
before making our way
over to Brick Lane to see... |
...Tony and Michael, who were hard at
work with the annual spring-clean of their building's garden: |
well,
at least Michael was
hard at work... |
Then we raced across town by car
(actually it is impossible to race anywhere in London by car;
rather we crept across town) to the
Zoo to meet Oliver, Wendy, Ste, and assorted wild animals.
In the evening we had a relaxing
dinner at home with Cathy and Julian in Hammersmith... |
On Monday, before leaving for the
airport, we walked across the recently re-opened, no longer wildly
swaying (how dull!), Millennium Bridge... |

visited Jack & Phyl's
engraved paving stone
at the Globe Theater... |
crossed back over
the Thames on the new Hungerford Bridge... |
and had a quick lunch
at Yo Sushi!
Then we flew on to Finland, where the
sun was only just setting at 11:00pm as we landed at the Helsinki
airport. Despite the late hour, Jukka met us at the airport to escort us
to the hotel.
Tuesday morning we strolled around
town before the meetings began...
And then it was time to back to
London...
if anyone asks, the
in-flight meal on Finnair is chipped moose meat.
three hours and one
chipped moose later, we descended low over Windsor Castle, for a
landing back home at Heathrow...
in our brief time back in London we
visited Karl Marx & others in the green wilds of Highgate
Cemetary... |
had lunch at Bloom's in Golder's
Green... |
and tea with
Hala & Joseph... |
Before flying home to Aspen from our
brief overnight trip, we stopped in Oxford to play with Noah and visit
with Suke & Peter...
