Alex & Jeremy's First Roadtrip!

July 4-7, 19-20, 2003

On the Fourth of July we set off on our first cross-country roadtrip with Alex & Jeremy!

 We pointed our minivan west and headed for the western slope

 town of Grand Junction.    (Alex wanted to drive, but Katherine

 told him: "Not until your feet reach the peddles, dear.")

In Grand Junction there was music (sort of) before fireworks>

The boys were unimpressed>

The next morning we stopped in the small Colorado border town of Fruita to visit a memorial sculpture commemorating our hero, Headless Mike the Chicken

and then we drove on to

Zion National Park in Utah...

the notch in the wall is the long road tunnel into the Zion Park

We spent a night at the Canyon Ranch motor court in the town of Springdale at the edge of the Park>

 

We hiked with our adventure boys in temperatures which reached 102º by noon>

the Park roads are closed to car traffic during the summer breakfast with the boys in Zion Lodge, inside the Park

From the amazing natural wonders of Zion,

we drove west to the surreal wonders of Vegas...

we decided to stay in the Venezia... which is just like Venice... if Venice were located in the middle of the Nevada dessert and filled with slot machines.    

     our suite in Venice... Alex & Jeremy liked the Vegas lifestyle! Doge Jeremy bathed in style!        the next morning Alex was already to set off on new adventures... Jeremy, however, thought more sleep would be a very good thing.      who sez there is no culture in Vegas???

We had two weeks of wonderful adventures, and even some restful time, in Hollywood before getting out on the road again to head back east to Aspen.

On our return trip we again stopped in Vegas for a few hours, this time in Paris>

 

translation: "Please don't boycott us, we're not really French! It's only pretend!"

Leaving

Las Vegas>

Alex found the big bed to be VERY comfy

We spent a night in

St. George, Utah.

 

We thought if Katherine did a product placement for McDonald's, they might sponsor the cost of the trip. We're still waiting for their call...

   

And then visited the

Kolob Canyon of Zion>

It was a wonderful trip, and the boys were true adventurers. 

We can't wait to head off again on another roadtrip!
