Just when the excitement from Wintersköl had begun to die down, word came that the

Olympic Torch was passing through Aspen on its way to Salt Lake City!

All manner of festivities were planned for our little mountain town, but we have our priorities,

so first we went for an early morning ski at Snowmass.

Just as we arrived home, the Torch runner came down Main Street past our house:

After welcoming the Torch to town, we headed down to the Opera House corner where a wild

celebration was in progress.  Where did all these people come from??

Even though it is not yet an Olympic sport, the town held a snow carving contest:

            Katherine's London home. Katherine's Aspen home. Katherine's L.A. home.

And in the evening, after the Torch had headed back out on the road to Utah,

there was a torch-light parade down Aspen Mountain. . .

followed by fireworks in the night sky:

On Sunday the Olympic Ski Splash took place at Snowmass.

The "sport" involves people flying off a ski jump into a swimming pool. Ouch.
